Testosterone

From Lewis Blevins, MD – Photo from The Huffington Post – Testosterone use in men has been “associated” with cardiovascular risk. In my opinion, this is because men with cardiovascular disease, who are obviously sick, have lower testosterone levels as the reproductive functions are shut down by underlying illness. When MD’s do not treat the underlying illnesses, and instead just give testosterone, men go on to have their heart attacks and strokes. The results that give warning are as much related to the way in which medicine is practiced as they are due to testosterone. I do not feel it is appropriate for the manufacturers of testosterone to be sued in class action lawsuits that are being proposed as a result of the findings. Testosterone is safe and effective in otherwise well hypopituitary patients and in patients with isolated hyopgonadism due to other causes. At any rate, here is a link to a NY Times article.
